Red wine on carpet feels like a disaster in the moment, but treated quickly and correctly, most stains lift out completely.

Act immediately

Blot, don’t rub, the spill with a clean cloth to absorb as much wine as possible before it sets into the fibres.

The treatment

Mix a small amount of dish soap with hydrogen peroxide, apply to the stain, and blot again. Always test on a hidden area of carpet first.

What not to do

Avoid rubbing, which pushes the stain deeper and spreads it wider, and avoid hot water, which can set the stain.

If it doesn’t fully lift

Older or set-in stains sometimes need professional attention. See our living room cleaning guide for more on carpet care.
